Santa Barbara Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred early Saturday on the Santa Barbara City College campus.
At about 4:30 a.m., officers responded after receiving a report that the assault had occurred near the creek on SBCC’s East Campus.
The person attacked was walking alone at the time of the assault, police said, and did not know the attacker.
No details were provided about the person attacked, and there was no description of the suspect.
“Community members are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings, especially during early morning or late-night hours,” police said in a press release. “When possible, consider walking with others, using well-lit routes, and carrying a charged mobile phone.
“If you feel unsafe, trust your instincts and seek help immediately. These reminders are intended to promote personal safety and do not place responsibility on victims for criminal acts.”
