Two men were shot at a downtown Santa Barbara bar early Friday morning and police arrested the suspected shooter, Assistant Chief Kenneth Kushner said.

Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about gunshots at a bar on the 500 block of State Street around 12:14 a.m., and police arrived to find two men with apparent gunshot wounds, he said.

Adam M. Zaragosa, a 28-year-old Lompoc resident, was arrested by police “for his believed involvement with the shooting,” Kushner said Friday morning.

Zaragosa was detained by bar security staff at the scene before police arrived, according to police.

The two men were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by American Medical Response. One man reported minor injuries and the other was scheduled to have surgery for injuries from the shooting, Kushner said.

Police said the shooting suspect and the two victims had a verbal altercation before the shooting.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no further information was available, according to police.
