Santa Barbara police are investigating a stabbing and a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the city, and said the incidents are not believed to be related.
Officers responded to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital at about 2:15 a.m. after a stabbing victim was brought to the emergency room, Sgt. Bryan Kerr said.
The victim, whose name was not released, required emergency surgery for serious injuries, he added.
The reported stabbing occurred near a bar on the 3100 block of State Street, Kerr said.
“While officers were at the hospital investigating the stabbing, a gunshot victim arrived at the emergency room around 3 a.m.,” Kerr said. “The victim from the shooting is expected to survive, and it appears to be an isolated incident at this time.”
Detectives are investigating both incidents and believe the stabbing and shooting were not related, Kerr said.
No further details were provided by police about either incident.
