The name of the pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a Santa Maria street has been released along with the identity of a second man critically injured in the incident earlier this week.
Jonathan Villa Gutierrez, 23, of Santa Maria, died in the Tuesday morning crash, Sgt. Shane Armstrong of the Santa Maria Police Department Traffic Bureau said Friday.
At approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday, officers from the city’s Police Department responded to the collision on the 700 block of West Main Street.
Officers determined that an eastbound vehicle hit two men, ages 22 and 23, while they walked across Main Street mid-block, outside of a crosswalk.
Both suffered major injuries and were transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.
The second pedestrian Jose Cajero Rueda, 22, also of Santa Maria, remains in critical condition, Armstrong said Friday.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
The woman driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, police added.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Officer Robles with the Traffic Unit at 805.928.3781, ext. 2315.
