The Santa Barbara Police Department and county Coroner’s Bureau is investigating the death of a man found dead on the beach below the Mesa and El Camino de la Luz on Tuesday morning.
Emergency personnel responded to that area in the city, east of Mesa Lane Steps Beach, just before 10 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a possibly deceased person.
Police officers and City Fire Search and Rescue personnel responded and located the body near the rocks and base of the cliff, Sgt. Bryan Kerr said.
The person appeared to be a man in his 50s, according to police. The man’s identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“No signs of foul play were discovered, and the death remains under investigation,” Kerr said.
The fire search and rescue personnel recovered the body from the beach, he added.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau also responded to the beach and will investigate the cause and manner of death.
No additional information was available.
