Dos Pueblos alum Portia Sherman has put her name in the Cal beach volleyball record book.

Sherman and partner Emma Donley own the program record for the most wins by a No. 1 pair. Their victory against Hawai’i on the final day of the Hawai’i Invitational in Honolulu on Sunday was their 22nd together on court one. The previous mark of 21, set by Mimi Mirkovic and Caroline Schefer, was accomplished over two seasons (2019 and 2021).
The first-year duo of Sherman/Donley set the record in just 26 matches. They are currently 23-4 and on a 10-match winning streak. They are closing in on Cal’s single-season wins record of 27 set in 2018 by Grace Campbell/Maddie Micheletti.
Cal, 22-6 and ranked No. 10 in the country, closes out the regular season at the Stanford Invite this Friday and Saturday. The Bears play Washington, the host Cardinal, Santa Clara, and UC Davis.
There will be other local players in tournament: Washington includes Bishop Diego’s 2021CIF-SS indoor champion Alina Urzua and Stanford has former prep stars Chloe Hoffman (DP) and Taylor Wilson (San Marcos).
