Amid hot and windy conditions, Public Safety Power Shutoffs are possible for 40,225 customers along Santa Barbara County’s South Coast and mountain areas, Southern California Edison Co. reported Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Edison shut off power to 199 customers along the Gaviota Coast in the face of potential wildfire danger.

Notice of possible shutoffs began at noon on Monday and could last through 3 a.m. on Wednesday, depending on the circuit.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for 6 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for much of the county.

That includes the southern and southeastern coast of the county, the Santa Ynez Mountains, the interior mountains, the Gaviota Coast, Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito hills, and Carpinteria.

North winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts of 30 to 45 mph.

Per a Weather Service alert: “Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result… Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s through Sunday, with overnight lows in the mid- to upper-60s.
