San Marcos 68, Oaks Christian 60

The Royals battled their way to a non-league win over Oaks Christian on Saturday.

San Marcos was down by five points at halftime, but a big third quarter allowed it to jump out in front and steal the victory.

“Incredible show of resiliency and toughness by this group,” San Marcos head coach Matt Jordan said. “We had a pretty bad showing Friday night, and showed our toughness and culture tonight.

“So proud of this group and know we can have a really special year if we play for each other and buy into team success over individual numbers. Just an amazing bounce-back performance.

Brody Green poured in 25 points, including 10 free throws, to lead the Royals in scoring.

“Brody Green was an entirely different player tonight,” Jordan said. “His scoring was a result of him playing the right way, and he led us in a big way.”

Meanwhile, Aidan Conlan knocked down four three-pointers and totaled 16 points. Koji Hefner also dropped 11 points.

“Aidan Conlan and Sergio Landeros continue to consistently produce in a major way,” Jordan said. “Koji anchored our defense as he always does and was a force on both ends. Amazing win versus an incredibly disciplined and well-coached team.

“Proud of the boys and happy to get such a big win that can set the tone for our season this year.”

Palmdale 55, Carpinteria High 52

However, the Carpinteria High defense stepped up down the stretch and allowed the Warriors to get back into the game.

Despite a last-minute three-pointer to cut the deficit to three points, Carpinteria came up just short.
