Bishop Diego boys volleyball cruised to a three-set sweep over Dunn on the road on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-11, 25-17.
John Michael Flint turned in a strong all-around performance for the Cardinals, collecting 12 kills, six digs and three aces. Meanwhile, Damien Krautmann tallied eight kills and added on a block.
“When we attack the ball and use our physicality at the net, we’re a strong team for our level of play,” Bishop Diego coach Dillan Bennett said. “We have good athletes with physical skills who are slowly starting to come to life at the right time of the season.
“While we’d love a better overall record, we’re in the playoff hunt in D5 and hope to keep improving over the next two weeks.”
The Cardinals (12-3, 6-3 Tri-Valley League) will head to Chatsworth for the Varsity Invitational this weekend before closing out the league play next week.
San Marcos 3, Santa Ynez 0
The Royals earned a sweep in a non-league matchup against the Pirates, 25-11, 25-21, 25-16.
“ We were happy to get back into match play after our Spring break last week,” San Marcos coach Roger Kuntz said. “Santa Ynez was gracious and professional as they played during their Spring Break.”
The Royals were led by Cliff Ficker’s strong play at the libero position and middle hitter Declan McClintock, who ended with five kills and a pair of solo blocks.
“Cliff did an excellent job of stabilizing our serve receive and defense,” Kuntz said.
San Marcos, now 22-2 on the season, will be on the road against Quartz Hill on Thursday.
