Bishop Diego boys volleyball pulled off a rivalry sweep of Cate on Thursday in Carpinteria, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17.

“We came out and played well today,” Cardinals student manager Dominic Herrera said. “A lot of players contributed, and that was big for us. It was good getting players going early, and we’re excited for the Cardinal Classic this weekend.”

John Michael Flint led Bishop Diego on both ends with 12 kills and six digs while Damien Krautmann chipped in eight kills and 10 digs.

Nick Malesky racked up 10 kills of his own and Will Neubauer collected 34 assists while facilitating the offense.

The Cardinals (13-7, 5-0 Tri-Valley League) will host the Cardinal Classic on Saturday inside the Brick House.

Dos Pueblos 3, Rio Mesa 0

The Chargers earned a three-set sweep over the Spartans on Thursday in Oxnard, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14.

Noah Grant’s 10 kills led the Dos Pueblos offense while Evan Daugherty contributed six kills, six digs and five aces.

Wyatt Silver racked up 19 assists to go along with a pair of aces and Keenan Bower tallied eight assists and five digs.

The Chargers (12-3, 6-1 Channel League) will take on Camarillo on Friday at 12:45 p.m. in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.

Santa Barbara High 3, Buena 0

The Dons cruised to a sweep of the Bulldogs on Thursday, 25-13, 25-7, 25-13.

“Everyone on the team got a chance to play and I was pleased with our overall effort,” Santa Barbara High head coach Chad Arneson said.

Mason Morales had a strong offensive performance with seven aces and three kills. Meanwhile, Jasper Bell ended with eight kills and Reid Miller recorded six kills.

The Dons will open up the Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

San Marcos 3, Oxnard 1

The Royals captured a four-set win over the Yellow Jackets on Thursday inside the Thunderhut, 17-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-9.

“(Oxnard) Coach Pat Casey always has his team ready to play, and they jumped all over us in game one,” San Marcos head coach Dave Goss said.

Matteo Burdick and Calvin Frisell hammered down 14 and 10 kills, respectively, while Jamie Hetrick ended with six kills out of the middle.

Tyler Walker was strong from the service line and Ayden Welch put together a solid night both offensively and defensively. Kalea Anderson filled in at the libero position and facilitated the offense well.

Providence 3, Dunn 1

The Patriots picked up a four-set win over Dunn on Thursday, 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16.

“The guys played great today. I’m loving seeing the progress they make each match,” Providence head coach Dan Terry said. “It’s opening up a lot more options for me as a coach and they are really responding well to learning new things.

“I may have played with the line up a little too much game three, but they came back and took care of business, closing out the match in set four pretty decidedly.”

Jordan LaBrie led the Patriots with 15 kills while Moses Schlobohm recorded six of his own.

“I want to give credit to Dunn for taking set three despite losing a great player to an injury that game, it was a gritty win by them,” Terry said.

Providence will compete in the Cardinal Classic on Saturday inside the Brick House.

Nordhoff 3, Carpinteria 2

The Warriors dropped a five-set battle against the Rangers on Thursday, 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 23-25, 21-23.

“Every set was a battle, and the energy on the court was incredible,” Carpinteria High head coach Favian Muralles said. “It was such an exciting match to watch, and I couldn’t be prouder of our boys for fighting hard until the very end.”

Alan Maya was all over the court for the Warriors, collecting 12 kills, 12 assists, five blocks and five aces. Meanwhile, Alariuziel Rodriguez tallied seven kills, four blocks and 21 digs.

“What made this match special was how the entire team played together. Everyone had something to contribute, and it really showed in the stats,” Muralles said.

Carpinteria High is now 8-11 overall ahead of a trio of big matchups last week.
