Santa Barbara High football dominated its way to a 37-0 rout of Rio Mesa on Friday at Peabody Stadium.

The Dons (5-3, 2-1 Channel League) will now look ahead to a tough challenge against Westlake at home next week.

Santa Barbara High dominated the opening half, pulling away for a commanding 24-0 lead by the time both teams went into the locker room.

The Dons had big plays in all three facets of the game to build the advantage, including a Reid Miller interception, a Cade Mault field goal and a Griffin Arnold rushing touchdown.

The Santa Barbara High defense continued to dominate, forcing a punt on every drive for the Spartans in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the Dons added to their lead with a 29-yard passing touchdown from Arnold to Everett Rabb-Preston to take a 31-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Arnold found his running back Rabb-Preston for another touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to expand the advantage to 37-0 and start the running clock.

That proved to be the final score as the Dons’ defense completed the shutout and the offense ran out the clock for the victory.

Pacifica 49, Bishop Diego 24

The Cardinals dropped their Marmonte League matchup with powerhouse Pacifica on Friday at La Playa Stadium.

The Tritons opened the scoring with a long touchdown run and never looked back en route to the win.

Bishop Diego’s offense found some success later in the game, including a long touchdown connection between quarterback Kaleo Satele and Mavaega Luvu to cut into the deficit.

The Cardinals will look to bounce back when they host Simi Valley next Thursday at 7 p.m.

Grace 40, Carpinteria High 0

The Warriors struggled to keep up with Grace in a shutout loss on Friday in Carpinteria.

It was all Grace in the opening quarter, dominating in every facet of the game to take a dominant 33-0 lead after the first quarter.

“What could go wrong did go wrong in the first quarter. We had two blown coverages for TDs. Two other scoring drives were set up by an interception and a fumble. We couldn’t get anything going offensively to help our defense either,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham.

The second quarter then went scoreless, and Grace brought the game to its final score with a passing touchdown in the third quarter.

“It was a disappointing result. Grace is a very good team,” Latham said. “Unfortunately, we made some mistakes that good teams take advantage of. After the first quarter, it felt like we were swimming upstream.”

The Warriors will host Del Sol for their home finale next Friday.
