A pair of local girls flag football teams came away with shutout victories on Wednesday as San Marcos defeated Pacifica and Dos Pueblos took down Ventura.

San Marcos 33, Pacifica 0

San Marcos picked up a huge blowout win over Pacifica by a score of 33-0.

“I’m very proud of the way our team played tonight,” Royals head coach Jason Fowle said. “We knew Pacifica was going to be very competitive and have lots of speed. Our defense responded to the challenge and really took their game to the next level.”

The beginning of the first half was close as neither offense could find a groove.

The Royals finally found the scoreboard late in the half when sophomore quarterback Mia Sturm found sophomore wideout Rio Chesluk for a 25-yard touchdown pitch and catch.

After Chesluk caught the extra point, San Marcos was up 7-0, a lead that was carried into halftime. Chesluk also picked up an interception in the first half.

On the first play from scrimmage of the second half, junior wide receiver Jazmin Ordaz took a pitch from Sturm 60 yards down the field for a touchdown. After a failed extra point, the Royals were up 13-0.

Chesluk continued her big day with a 15-yard touchdown reception from Sturm to extend the lead.

The final score on the offensive side of the ball came on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Jazmyn Amezcua to Riley Cook.

“It was nice to get some things clicking offensively in the second half as well,” Fowle said. “We have a good mindset going and are eager to get back to work and continue to improve.”

As the offense put up points consistently in the second half, the defense was dominant, tallying four interceptions in the half. Peyton Sperling had a pair of interceptions, Chesluk grabbed another and Marilyn Monroy made a big play out of her interception.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Monroy picked off the Pacifica quarterback and took it back 55 yards for San Marcos’ final score of the night.

The Royals (4-2, 2-1 Channel League) will take on Lompoc next Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Dos Pueblos 25, Ventura 0

Dos Pueblos also got a dominant effort on both sides of the ball in a 25-0 win over Ventura.

Quarterback Gianna Nichols led the offensive attack with four touchdown passes. Two of those touchdowns were thrown to Katie Peterson, while Madi Jones and Emily Raymond each got in on the fun in the endzone as well.

On the ground, Sterling and Ruby Streatfield found success running the ball.

On the defensive side, the Chargers tallied two interceptions thanks to Brooklyn Hedricks and Peterson.

Taylor Hayes added in a sack and multiple flag pulls while Sophia Pixley and Addy Goodworth turned in solid defensive efforts as well.

The Chargers are now 4-0 overall this season and 2-0 in league play.
