San Marcos girls lacrosse raced past Dos Pueblos for an 18-7 victory on Monday at Warkentin Stadium.

The win moved the Royals to 15-2 overall and 9-0 in Channel League play while the Chargers are now 6-7 overall and 4-5 in league action.

The first quarter was a contested one as both squads went back and forth until San Marcos held a 5-2 lead heading into the second.

“It was a little different feel after the first quarter but the way we can take care of the ball when we want to, we knew we just needed to get it and keep it a little bit to not be on defense,” Royals head coach Paul Ramsey said.

San Marcos did just that in the second quarter, taking control of the game and outscoring the Chargers 6-1 in the quarter to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.

From there, the Royals dictated the pace of play and cruised to the 18-7 win in the second half.

Sadi Adams led all scorers with six goals for San Marcos while Clara Stump turned in her second four-goal performance in a row.

“Clara’s effort on the non-ball work has always been so strong,” Ramsey said. “It’s really nice to see teammates finding her open and everyone sharing the ball.

“Clara has been so good for us controlling the tempo when we don’t want to be up-tempo, which is a huge role, and now she’s getting rewarded for being such a team player.”

In the net, Megan Taylor collected nine saves to anchor a strong San Marcos defense.

As for the Chargers, Eloise Shea and Chloe Gotsis each scored a pair of goals. Meanwhile, Shea had seven ground balls and two draw controls of her own.

Also scoring for Dos Pueblos were Linnea Clapinski and Alice Sperling.
