Dos Pueblos girls soccer recorded a 2-2 draw with Buena in a Channel League matchup on Tuesday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
“The team prepared well knowing they had a tough matchup against a very talented and athletic Buena squad,” Chargers coach Marco Medina said. “Our coaching staff could not be more pleased seeing the players stick to the game plan and play with intention, urgency and discipline.
“It was a total team effort tonight on defense and offense.”
After a slow start to the game, Dos Pueblos opened the scoring late in the first half when Alina Seidel finished off an assist from Paige Ferro to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs came out of halftime on fire with the equalizer 10 minutes into the second half.
The two teams then went back and forth for the majority of the half until Anya Newton scored on a header from a corner kick by Maleka Wilcox to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead with minutes left.
However, Buena scored in the final minute of regulation to end in a 2-2 draw.
Santa Barbara High 1, Pacifica 1
The Dons and Tritons battled to a 1-1 draw at Pacifica High on Tuesday.
Santa Barbara High struck first in the opening half when Emma Limon’s shot rebounded off the Pacifica goalkeeper to Ginger Winckler, who finished it off for the goal and the 1-0 lead.
The Tritons battled back and evened the score up later in the game, and that 1-1 score held until the final whistle as both defenses held strong down the stretch.
“The girls showed a lot of character tonight and it’s a big moment for us getting a point on the road, and it shows what we can achieve when we play together as a team,” Dons coach Willie Sims said.
“We felt like we should have won the game with Emma Limon tonight being dangerous on the left-hand side and creating chances for the team but their goalie came up with some good saves.”
San Marcos 0, Rio Mesa 0
The Royals and Spartans ended in a scoreless draw in Tuesday’s league matchup.
“Tonight we couldn’t break down Rio Mesa’s defensive shape,” San Marcos coach Miguel Vences said. “I give them credit, they were well organized and defended the spaces well.
“We created chances but we just couldn’t take advantage and we didn’t look as sharp as we usually do in the final third.”
