Carpinteria and Cate High swept their respective opponents on Friday as they continued non-league action.
Carpinteria 3, Thacher 0
The Warriors rolled out a new lineup on Friday and came away with a sweep of the Toads, 25-14, 25-19, 25-16.
Middle blockers Camila Martinez and Sawyer Taff led the way for Carpinteria. Martinez turned in four digs and three blocks while Taff had five blocks and three kills of her own.
Filling in at the setter position was Amarisse Camargo, tallying 14 assists and five kills.
With the win, the Warriors now sit at an even 3-3 in non-league play.
Cate 3, Fillmore 0
The Cate High Rams also won with a sweep on Friday, taking down the Fillmore 25-21, 25-14, 25-10.
The first game was a back-and-forth affair before the Rams broke away for the four-point victory. In the second game, Cate got out to a comfortable lead with multiple serving runs and cruised to the win.
In the third and final game, Cate had found a groove from the service line and never looked back.
“I think we did a good job of staying together and competing as a team tonight,” Cate coach Jordon Dyer said. “We had a lot of players sub in and help contribute to our team which is always great to see.”
Senior Melanie Davidson led the Rams in assists with 27 and aces with five. Meanwhile, sophomore Oyin Opawumi was the team leader in kills with 14.
“Shoutout to Mel leading the team in aces and assists, she also had a handful of gritty hustle plays that helped us stay on top,” Dyer said.
“Great job by Oyin Opawumi for leading the team in kills and dominating at the net. Emerson Evans also had a good scoring night with points on service and attacking end.”
Cate will host Santa Ynez next Thursday at 6 p.m.
