In Tuesday’s girls volleyball action, Santa Barbara High, Dos Pueblos and Carpinteria each walked away with wins in their respective matchups.

The Dons won in a contested battle with Buena while the Chargers and Warriors swept their opponents.

Santa Barbara 3, Buena 2

The Dons came out on top in a tightly-contested five-set matchup with Buena.

The final set scores were 20-25, 29-27, 25-16, 17-25, 15-12.

“Buena came ready to battle with strong hitting and disciplined blocking, and we started out a little flat,” Santa Barbara head coach Kristin Hempy said. “I’m proud of the girls for really digging deep, fighting through it and walking away with the win.”

Emmy Werner turned in a double-double in the win, collecting 12 kills and 16 digs. Also leading the offensive effort were Serena Byrd and Nicole Schuetz, who each had eight kills.

Tessa de Albergaria and Lexi Horton each found themselves with double-digit digs, tallying 19 and 10, respectively.

Meanwhile, Gwen Chenoweth and Stella Borgioli filled up the stat sheet as well. Chenoweth ended with 10 assists and eight digs while Borgioli had 12 digs and nine assists.

Dos Pueblos 3, Rio Mesa 0

The Chargers cruised to a dominant sweep over Rio Mesa, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12.

Halle Rillie was once again passing the ball all over the court, accumulating 28 assists to go along with eight digs and two kills.

Converting many of those assists were Addison Low, Lia Papador and Jayden Jones. Low ended with nine kills on the night while Papador and Jones had seven apiece.

Layla McQuiggan stood out defensively with 11 digs, the only Charger with double-digit digs.

Dos Pueblos has now evened its season-long record to 7-7 to go along with a league mark of 4-2.

Carpinteria 3, Fillmore 0

The Warriors came away with a sweep of Fillmore with set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.

Despite the final tally, Carpinteria got off to a slow start and found itself down 21-13 in the first set. However, following a timeout, the Warriors settled in and rattled off 12 points thanks to the serving of Liz Aplizar.

Following that run, they never looked back en route to the big win.

The Carpinteria offensive attack was led by Amarisse Camargo’s 10 assists and five kills. Meanwhile, Jessie Marquez played a strong back row with five digs and Ashlee Mora added in 12 digs of her own.

The win brings the Warriors to 6-5 on the season and 3-2 in league.

Oxnard 3, San Marcos 1

The Royals fell to Oxnard with set scores of 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22.

“Their middle hitter was really strong and had us on our toes all night,” San Marcos coach Tina Brown said.

Gracie Stone was a standout for San Marcos with nine kills in 19 attempts with just one error.

Kaylin Cooney led the way offensively with 14 kills while Cora Loomer added in nine kills and three blocks. Josie Gamberdella led the team in both digs and assists, collecting 13 and 37, respectively.

San Marcos will look to bounce back against Buena on Thursday.

La Reina 3, Laguna Blanca 0

The Owls suffered a sweep to La Reina, 25-11, 25-19, 25-17, to bring their overall record to 5-6 and 0-2 in Tri-Valley League play.

Natalie Bianchi led the Laguna Blanca effort by playing solid defense against a strong opponent and turning in five kills.

The Owls will face off against Bishop Diego on Thursday.
