Providence girls volleyball put on a show for a packed crowd on Senior Night on Wednesday, dominating their way to a sweep of Besant Hill, 25-8, 25-6, 25-4.
The win clinched an undefeated league season, giving the team plenty of momentum heading into playoffs. The seniors honored were Rebecca Oliynyk, Lexi Underwood and Tessa Knoles.
“I’m proud of the girls for finishing off league on such a high note, I’m excited to see what they can do in playoffs,” Patriots Taylor Slover said. “Hopefully the crowd comes back out to cheer them on for that too.”
After dropping the first four points of the match, Providence found a groove fueled by a 14-point serving run by Daniella Terry. The Patriots rode this momentum to a 25-8 win.
Providence continued to cruise in the second set thanks to an 11-point run from Ava Wagner. The Patriots ended the set with a 25-8 victory.
Rosie Murren-Doherty continued the trend in the third and final set, rattling off a 12-point service run to clinch a 25-4 set win and overall sweep.
Wagner, Terry, Kate Douglas and Olivia Leflang all tied for the team-high in kills with six. Terry also led the way with eight aces.
“ They’ve worked so hard this season and deserve this win,” Slover said.
Carpinteria 3, Santa Paula 1
The Warriors battled their way to a four-set win over Santa Paula on Senior Night, 25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20.
Offensively, Amarisse Camargo led the way with a team-high 12 kills to go along with eight digs on the defensive end. Camilia Martinez also had a solid all-around performance with six kills and three blocks.
Jenny Valencia finished the night with 17 assists and five kills while Sawyer Taff turned in four blocks.
Carpinteria is now 13-6 overall and 9-3 in league play.
