Carpinteria High girls water polo went 2-0 at the Santa Barbara Friendlies on Saturday to finish the tournament at 3-1 with a 15-3 win over Santa Paula and a 13-2 rout of Oxnard.

“The girls came into the day exhausted from the two high-intensity, high-pressure games from yesterday,” Warriors head coach Jon Otsuki said. “We needed to pace ourselves and make sure we had enough energy to finish both games.

“In both contests, the Warriors exhibited the same game scripts, played a pressure defense, got transition goals to build a good lead then got the reserves quality playing time.”

Carpinteria got out to a 4-0 lead over Santa Paula and never looked back to earn the non-league win.

Holiday Smith scored six goals while Madison Lee added four goals and five assists in the win. Hazel Dugre also scored four times and had three steals of her own. Defensively, Gwen Postma had eight blocks.

The second game of the day was the same story for the Warriors, as they built out a 3-0 first-quarter lead and continued to cruise to the win over Oxnard.

Dugre led the team with five goals to go along with two assists and two steals. Meanwhile, both Giulia Piccoletti and Lee scored four times while tallying four and three steals, respectively. Postma recorded 10 blocks.

Carpinteria High will take its undefeated Citrus Coast League record to a matchup with Channel Islands on Tuesday.

San Marcos

The Royals split their non-league doubleheader on Saturday at Elings Aquatic Center, falling to Orange Lutheran 11-5 before defeating Marlborough by a score of 16-5.

“I was very proud of our team, we are improving and competing,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “I am so lucky to coach such a great group of young women. All of my girls play every minute like it is the last – as a coach not sure I can ask for more.”

Bethany King turned in a strong all-around performance in the loss with one goal, two steals and four saves. Meanwhile, Naomi Enright had one goal and three assists.

McKenna Stuart, Marina Brown and Shea Estabrook all scored as well for San Marcos.

In the impressive win over Marlborough, Enright led the team with four goals while King and Eleanore Grube scored three goals apiece.

Sophie Yonker and Stuart each scored twice while Jade Pattinson and Brown rounded out the scoring with one goal. Brown also had a season-high six steals in the win.

The Royals will host Oxnard for a Channel League matchup on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Dos Pueblos

The Chargers started fast and never looked back en route to a 9-5 win over Marlborough High on Saturday.

Dos Pueblos raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening quarter and that proved to be the difference in the four-goal victory.

The duo of Keira McAvoy and Franki Court netted two goals apiece while Megan Garner and Reagan Mack combined for a strong performance in the cage.

The Chargers will now play 11 games in a 10-day span to close out the regular season.

Santa Barbara High

The Dons split their final two matchups of the Santa Barbara Friendlies on Saturday, taking down Oxnard 17-5 before falling to Thousand Oaks b y a score of 13-9.

Kana Wolfe led Santa Barbara with seven goals across both games to go along with two assists.

Meanwhile, Rose Nelley, Juliana Horton and Yesenia Dunn scored four goals apiece. Hope Smith and Naleah La Riba-Kveta each scored twice.

The Dons (11-10) will be on the road against Camarillo on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
