Dos Pueblos girls water polo turned in a strong all-around performance in a 13-4 victory over Rio Mesa on Tuesday at Elings Aquatic Center.
The Chargers dominated the first half, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and eventually leading 7-1 heading into halftime.
The dominance continued into the second half as Dos Pueblos extended the advantage to 12-3 in the third quarter before walking away with the nine-goal win.
Frankie Court’s three goals led an offensive effort that had five multi-goal scorers. HanaLora Abel, Sofia Huebner, Keira McAvoy and Devereaux Wigo scored two goals apiece.
Rounding out the scoring was freshman Lucia Yanez with her first career varsity goal.
In the cage, Megan Garner collected 11 saves and chipped in three assists.
Dos Pueblos (5-4, 2-0 Channel League) will face Mira Costa in the opening round of the SB Tournament of Champions on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Elings Aquatic Center.
Santa Barbara 10, Camarillo 6
The Dons pulled out a four-goal victory over Camarillo on Tuesday.
Layla Szymczak had a big game on the offensive end of the pool, scoring six of the team’s 10 goals.
Accounting for the rest of the scoring for Santa Barbara were Addie Sweeney and Stella Gray with two goals apiece. Sweeney also chipped in four steals and two assists while Gary collected a pair of steals.
Nalani Yim ended the day with 12 saves and two steals in the cage.
The Dons will begin their SB Tournament of Champions against Los Alamitos on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Santa Barbara High.
Carpinteria 20, Nordhoff 8
The Warriors used a huge fourth quarter to secure a 20-8 win over Nordhoff on Tuesday.
Carpinteria got out to a strong start, leading 4-0 after the first quarter. However, the Rangers adjusted in the second and the Warrior lead sat at 7-3 at halftime.
After a tight third quarter kept the game in reach for Nordhoff at 12-7, Carpinteria exploded for an eight-goal performance in the fourth.
Meanwhile, the Warrior defense held Nordhoff to just one goal to grab the 12-goal victory.
“Great defense helps create easy offensive opportunities is what all coaches strive for,” Carpinteria coach Jon Otsuki said. “The Warriors challenged every pass and every shot and capitalized by creating steals which led to fast breaks.”
Giulia Piccoletti turned in an impressive seven-goal performance to go along with her two steals while Hazel Dugre collected five goals, three steals and a block.
Also helping out the scoring attack were Lilli Nemetz, Caden Lemer and Mina Handall with four, three and one goal, respectively.
Defensively, Allison Banks recorded eight blocks at goalie.
The Warriors (7-3, 2-0 CCL) will travel to Hueneme on Thursday.
San Marcos 19, Oxnard 5
The Royals had an offensive outburst of their own in a blowout win over Oxnard.
Sophie Yonker (5), Shea Estabrook (4), Lily Bordofsky (4), Scarlet Akin (2) and Maxine Knocker (2) all turned in multi-goal performances in the victory.
Reese Danhauer and Jessica Prykhitko each found the back of the cage once as well.
San Marcos (14-1, 2-0 CL) will play their first game of the SB Tournament of Champions against either Alta Loma or Downey at Dos Pueblos on Friday at 11 a.m.
