San Marcos girls water polo opened the Villa Park Tournament with a pair of big victories on Thursday in Villa Park.
The Royals began the day with a 23-11 victory over Huntington Beach High and followed that up with a 20-8 rout of El Segundo.
San Marcos wasted no time getting its offense rolling, racing out to a 12-3 lead in the opening game of the day and never looking back en route to the win.
Charlotte Raisin scored six of her team-high seven goals in the opening quarter, while both McKenna Stuart and Ella Grube scored three goals.
Meanwhile, Sophie Yonker, Bethany King, Shea Gannon and Scarlett Akin all scored twice. Jade Pattison and Josie Drabik rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
The pattern of early dominance continued into game two, as the Royals built up a 13-3 lead over El Segundo by halftime. The San Marcos defense continued to keep El Segundo in check en route to the win.
The Royals (6-1) will take on Long Beach Wilson on Friday at Huntington Beach High.
Dos Pueblos @ Villa Park Tournament
The Chargers also swept their doubleheader on the first day of the Villa Park Tournament on Thursday.
After cruising to a 19-3 win over Mt. Carmel, the Chargers continued to roll with an 18-3 win over San Juan Hills. Dos Pueblos had complete control throughout both games.
In the win over Mt. Carmel, Reagan Mack racked up 13 blocks and swiped a pair of steals from the cage. Offensively, Kyra Jones scored five goals and Talia Marshall netted four of her own.
The defense continued to shine against San Juan Hills, as Mack tallied seven more blocks and Dev Wigo and Kyra Jones combined for seven steals.
Wigo also made an impact on the offensive end with six goals to lead an effort that featured eight goal scorers.
Buena 17, Carpinteria High 9
The Warriors dropped a non-league contest with the Bulldogs on Thursday.
“Despite the final score, the Warriors had several competitive quarters and showed growth against a well-coordinated offense with crisp passing and attacking play,” Carpinteria High coach Mandi de Witte said. “The team continues to gain valuable experience and build toward stronger performances ahead.”
Hazel Dugre and Holliday Smith each scored impressive goals for the Warriors, while Lucia Smith turned in a strong performance defensively.
