Cate boys lacrosse registered an 11-6 victory over Viewpoint on Thursday.
The Rams’ defense was strong for the majority of the matchup, holding Viewpoint to just one goal in the first half and heading into halftime with a 6-1 lead.
Viewpoint came out strong in the third quarter with two straight goals, but Cate buckled down and outscored their opponent 5-3 across the final quarter and a half to earn the win.
“This is certainly a group of guys ready to work hard for each other,” Rams coach Troy Shapiro said. “We have some clear things to work on when we’re back from break and will be excited to move together as a team through the hectic and competitive league season.”
Quincy Thorne led Cate in scoring with four goals while Elliorr Murray Osborn netted three goals. Johnny Foster and Cody Mast had identical stat lines with two goals and three assists apiece.
Tres Davidson rounded out the scoring with one goal on the day.
“It was another great day to see our guys play together and lift each other up,” Shapiro said. “We’re really proud of how the team added some extra focus and hustle to the ride today.”
Dos Pueblos 13, Oak Park 6
The Chargers picked up their first win of the season on Thursday.
Despite the final score, Oak Park dominated early to the tune of a 4-1 lead following the first quarter.
However, Dos Pueblos dominated the second quarter 8-0 and went into halftime leading 9-4.
From there, the Chargers cruised to the win while keeping Oak Park at a safe distance.
“The offense did a great job maintaining possession and dictating the tempo in the game during the second half to come out with the win,” Dos Pueblos coach Lucas Martinez said. “DP dominated the middle of the field, with aggressive and smart midfield play going along with a relentless attack ride.”
Daniel Finneran scored seven of the Chargers’ 13 goals while Cal Denier went 16-for-22 (73%) at the faceoff X.
The duo of Gus Miller and Andrew Forsland collected five groundballs apiece to help Dos Pueblos (1-1) to the win.
Girls Lacrosse
San Marcos girls lacrosse earned a 10-8 victory over Saugus on Thursday.
The Royals started hot, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter, and following an even second, San Marcos held a 7-3 advantage at halftime.
Saugus woke up in the third, outscoring the Royals 4-1 in the quarter. After a goal to start the fourth period, the game was tied at 8-8.
However, San Marcos stepped up when it mattered most with two unanswered goals for the victory.
“It was amazing the way everyone picked up the slack with us missing Gigi (Mills) and the two JV players we brought up for the game have to be complimented,” Royals coach Paul Ramsey said. “We haven’t been full strength yet this season but our team effort has been tremendous.”
“Keoni Barbisan and Charlotte Smythe deserve a shout for helping us get this win.”
Sadi Adams led all scorers with five goals while Liv Plourde had two goals and one assist.
San Marcos (3-1) will take on Valencia next Wednesday on the road.
