Carson Stewart recorded a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds to power the Laguna Blanca boys basketball team to a 64-42 win over Newbury Park Adventist on Tuesday night.

The Owls shot 58% from the field and blew the game open in the second half.

Stewart shot 9 for 11 while junior center Eka Nayak was 4 for 6 from the floor. He scored his eight points in the third quarter, most of them on pick and rolls with Michael Wang.

Wang scored 12 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 7 assists.

“Mike has done an outstanding job of leading our team this year,” said coach Phil Sherman.

He also praised the energy that juniors Spencer Hlavaty and Ganden Walker bring to the team.

Laguna Blanca is now 5-3 on the season.

Santa Ynez 57, Nipomo 53

First league game Pirates pull out a victory over the Titans 57-53. Defensive specialist Nick Fieldhouse was mvp for his phenomenal effort. 

Jackson Ollenburger scored 23 points points and Nick Fieldhouse provided solid defense for the Pirates in their league opener.

Caleb Cassidy had a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds and Hale Durbiano scored 13 points.

Girls Basketball

Carpinteria suffered a 44-43 loss to Santa Paula in a Citrus Coast League game on Tuesday.

The Warriors couldn’t convert scoring chances down the stretch and came up a point shot.

Charlotte Cooney scored 18 points and Jamaica Cook added 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

“I was very happy with our grit, never-say-die attitude and willingness to compete to the end,” said coach Henry Gonzales. 

Carpinteria is 1-2 in league and 7-8 overall.

Lompoc 39, Santa Ynez 29

Jadyn Gardner scored seven points and Rylan Agin had six points, seven rebounds and two assists for Santa Ynez.

Boys Soccer

Bishop Diego defeated Laguna Blanca, 2-1, in a boys soccer match on Tuesday.

Franky Baron scored Laguna Blanca’s lone goal off a cross from Aden Miesel.

Bishop Diego scored the game winner in the 75th minute on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.

Righetti 3, Santa Ynez 1

Righetti scored three goals on penalty kicks.

Aiden Tapia scored in the second half for Santa Ynez.
