Dos Pueblos softball pulled out a 2-1 victory over Simi Valley on the road on Friday.
The lone run for Simi Valley came in the bottom of the first on an RBI fielder’s choice.
However, the Chargers struck right back in the top of the second when Rylee Cathcart roped a triple and Kylie Pearce singled her in to knot the game up at 1-1.
Simi Valley threatened to take the lead back in the bottom half, but Pearce gunned down a runner from the outfield to keep the game tied up.
Dos Pueblos’ Georgia Wilson dominated the rest of the game in the circle, as she did not allow a hit over the final four innings of play.
The game remained at 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning when Brooklyn Hedricks led the frame off for the Chargers with a single.
After Hedricks advanced to second on a groundout, Kaitlyn Ashby came up clutch with a two-out single to give Dos Pueblos a late 2-1 lead.
Wilson shut down Simi Valley in their final two at-bats to clinch the first win of the season for the Chargers.
“This was a great win against a very well-coached, disciplined team,” Dos Pueblos coach Mike Gerken said. “We were solid all around. I’m happy with the way we swung the bats today. Kaitlyn Ashby, Rylee Cathcart and Brooklyn Hedricks made great strides today.
“Georgia is a great leader in the circle and has the composure that comes with being a four-year starter, only giving up two runs in the last 14 innings.”
Anastasia Brunner, Kacey Hurley, Cathcart, and Ashby all collected two hits in an 11-hit performance by Dos Pueblos.
The Chargers are now 1-2 on the season and will take on Pacifica on the road on Tuesday.
Hueneme 6, Bishop Diego 2
Bishop Diego dropped a game at home to Hueneme by a score of 6-2.
The Vikings opened up the scoring in the top of the third inning with one run, but an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Sarah Fellers put the Cardinals up 2-1 heading into the fourth.
After a scoreless fourth, the Hueneme offense took over with three runs in the fifth inning and tacked on two more runs in the sixth to bring the lead to 6-2, a score that held until the final out.
Tara Gregson and Lauren Weeks led the Bishop Diego offense with two hits apiece. Weeks added three stolen bases on the day.
The Viking offense was a threat all game long, collecting 16 total hits to earn the victory.
Bishop Diego will hit the road to take on Santa Ynez on Tuesday.
Santa Barbara 6, Carpinteria 1 (Five-Inning Scrimmage)
The Dons took down the Warriors in a scrimmage after no umpires showed up to a scheduled non-league game.
Madison Benedict tossed five innings for Santa Barbara, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five.
Amanda Holguin had a two-RBI double in the win for the Dons while Ava Karman went 2-for-2 and Alina Magdaleno also knocked a double.
For Carpinteria, Amarisse Camargo tallied a triple and Caden Lemere went four innings in the circle.
