Kaitlyn Ashby tossed a two-hitter to lead Dos Pueblos softball to a 7-1 victory over Buena on Wednesday in Ventura.

Ashby struck out six Bulldogs and put together six 1-2-3 innings en route to the win in the circle.

“The story of our day was really pitching and defense,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “Kaitlyn located her pitches all game… getting Buena to hit a lot of ground balls and pop-ups. We got contributions from everyone on defense.”

The Chargers began the scoring in the second when Brooklyn Hedricks scored on a wild pitch after doubling earlier in the inning.

They quadrupled the lead to 4-0 in the third inning thanks to an RBI double by Kacey Hurley and a two-run single off the bat of Juliana Brunner.

Buena answered with a run in the bottom half but Dos Pueblos responded with another in the top of the fourth to make it 5-1.

In the seventh inning, Vereniki Maniadi put the cherry on top of the win with a two-run double to bring the game to its final score of 7-1.

“I am very pleased with our offense,” Gerken said. “We were patient all day, took the walks when we could, then got the big hits when we needed them.”

The Chargers (3-7, 2-1 Channel League) will take on San Marcos on the road on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Coastal Christian 4, Bishop Diego 2

The Cardinals fell by a score of 4-2 despite out-hitting the Conquerors on Wednesday at Soto Sports Complex.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on a double off the bat of Natalie Rodriguez. One inning later, a Pilar Alvarez RBI groundout doubled the Bishop Diego lead to 2-0.

However, Coastal Christian tied the game up with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.

The Conquerors then claimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs, taking a 4-2 lead that they never surrendered for the rest of the game.

Tara Gregson led Bishop Diego with three hits while Anna Fittipaldi and Madeline Ferries each had two hits. Gregson and Ferries combined to complete the game in the circle for the Cardinals.

Bishop Diego will take on Valley Christian Academy on the road on Thursday.

Rio Mesa 13, Santa Barbara High 0

The Dons suffered a lopsided loss to the Spartans on Wednesday as a makeup game from last week.
