As of Monday, it’s game on this weekend for the San Marcos and Carpinteria football teams.

Both programs had their season-opening games canceled last Friday due to COVID-19 issues. San Marcos heads to Lompoc to face Cabrillo on the new turf at Huyck Stadium. Cabrillo also will be making its debut. The Conquistadores opted out of playing last week due to player safety concerns and wanted another week of practice.

Carpinteria travels to Ojai to play Nordhoff on Friday night. Nordhoff shut out Santa Paula, 48-0, last week.

In other Friday football action scheduled on the South Coast, Santa Barbara High makes its debut at Santa Ynez (0-1); Dos Pueblos (0-1) hosts Lompoc (1-0) and Bishop Diego faces Camarillo in a battle of 1-0 teams at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium.

Boys and girls soccer gets going this week in the area. The Carpinteria girls host Santa Paula on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The defending Channel League-champion Santa Barbara boys begin the Ricardo Alcaraz coaching era in the renovated Peabody Stadium on Wednesday against Buena at 5:30 p.m. Alcaraz,  a former Dons’ standout, replaces Todd Heil, who is now the school’s athletic director.

The first crosstown baseball clash is on Wednesday as San Marcos travels to Dos Pueblos for a 3 p.m. game. On Saturday, Dos Pueblos hosts Santa Barbara at 11 a.m.
