In conjunction with the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) exhibit Inside/Outside (on view until Feb. 18), Professor Caroline Arruda will present a talk that combines philosophy with art to consider how artists show what a life well lived might look like.

Arruda will address the topic Making Art and Living the Authentic Life, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 in Mary Craig Auditorium at SBMA, 1130 State St.

Contemporary culture sees artists as being authentic because many pursue their creative goals above all else, sacrificing family or a stable life to realize their dreams. While few people doggedly pursue their goals with this intensity, artists still do have something to teach the rest of us about living authentically and living well, according to SBMA.

Arruda is associate professor of philosophy and director of graduate studies for the Philosophy Department at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Tickets are free for students ang SBMA members; $10 for non-members. Get tickets at tickets.sbma.net.
