Providence boys volleyball pulled out a tight five-set victory over Del Sol on Friday at Ortega Gym, 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 15-13.
After dropping set three and falling behind 18-7 in the fourth, the Patriots seemed to have lost all of the momentum gained in the opening two sets.
However, Providence fought back and outscored Del Sol 13-7 to close out the set and carried that energy into the fifth, where they eventually pulled out the win.
Hunter LaBrie led the Patriot offense with 16 kills while Cor Patterson had a strong night defensively, racking up 14 total digs.
“This was such a fun match, a ton of respect for Del Sol and how they played,” Providence coach Dan Terry said. “I look forward to seeing them in the future. Despite some weaker starts for us, the guys always fought back and won the points they needed to in the end.
“I saw a lot I want to improve on, but I also saw some really great play by these young men. Now they know what they can do when they need to. They just need to learn how to do it all match long.
