St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church invites community members to a free concert featuring the Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces, 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at 2901 Nojoqui Ave., Los Olivos.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary season, Quire of Voyces will perform Cathedral Classics, including works by Taverner, Clausen, Paulus, Allegri and Parry.
“The Quire will sing some of the most outstanding monuments of cathedral music in the acoustically beautiful St. Mark’s. It’s not to be missed,” said Patty Volner, Quire of Voyces administrator.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for first-come, first-seated admission. Free-will donations welcome at the door. After the 90-minute concert, there will be a complimentary reception to meet choir members and the director as well as enjoy refreshments.
Envisioned and founded by artistic director Nathan Kreitzer in 1993, the Quire of Voyces comprises professional singers from Southern California who volunteer their time and skill to create the ensemble’s acclaimed “crystalline” sound.
The Quire of Voyces is a nonprofit organization affiliated with Santa Barbara City College whose mission is a commitment to presenting transcendent interpretations of sacred a cappella music from the Renaissance and modern eras.
Beyond Santa Barbara, the group performs internationally including at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, concerts at Salisbury Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral and Saint James Piccadilly in London and in Vienna, Prague, and Budapest.
The Quire has CDs available for purchase at its concerts, as well as through local and online retailers. For more information, visit http://quireofvoyces.org/.
