With rain in the forecast for Saturday, the Orcutt Chalk Festival has been delayed a week, according to organizers.
“The 2023 Chalk Festival has been postponed until Saturday, October 7th due to rain expected in our area. PasspART tickets will be honored at the rescheduled event,” according to notice posted on its website and social media pages Friday morning.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain on Saturday, with between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible in the Santa Maria Valley.
The Orcutt Children’s Arts Foundation organizes the chalk festival to raise funds for art and music programs in Orcutt schools.
Organizers said this year’s Orcutt Chalk Festival will feature more than 60 artists displaying their talents from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Town Orcutt.
The festival will be located on Broadway and Union Avenue, where chalk art will be created by both featured artists and children.
Other highlights include entertainment on the stage, children’s activities, vendors, and food trucks.
The 11th event is the product of months-long planning and collaboration by four Orcutt-based nonprofit foundations.
Along with OCAF, the others involved are Orcutt Area Seniors in Service (OASIS), the Old Orcutt Merchants Association (OOMA), and the Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Association (OTORA).

The delay means the Orcutt Chalk Festival will be one of two in the North County during October.
The fourth Lompoc Chalks is planned for Oct. 20-22 at the Lompoc Airport with food trucks, music and art.
The Lompoc event will raise funds for the Lompoc Theatre Project, a grassroots effort to restore and reopen the historic theater which was built in 1927.
