The Santa Barbara Transgender Advocacy Network (SBTAN) invites the community to unite in solidarity for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Santa Barbara’s De La Guerra Plaza.

Participants will gather at the plaza, then march down State Street carrying signs bearing the names of transgender individuals lost to violence this year.

The annual observance honors their memory and calls attention to the urgent need for equality, safety, and dignity for all transgender people.

“Transgender Awareness Week and TDOR are a time for trans people to share experiences, educate, and advocate for their rights,” said Michal Lynch, organizer with Women’s March Santa Barbara.

“This is more important than ever as attacks on the trans community — and the organizations that support them — continue to rise across the country,” said Lynch.

Community members are asked to RSVP at https://sbtan.org/march to help organizers plan sign-making and ensure the greatest possible impact.

“Please join in standing with the transgender community — in remembrance, resistance, and hope,” organizers said.
