Ramiro “Ray” Lopez, a devoted husband, father, papa and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 10, 2026.
After arriving in the Santa Ynez Valley from Texas with his family in 1958, Ray proudly made the valley his lifelong home.
He later met the love of his life, Della “Honey” Lopez, and they were married on Aug. 5, 1961. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful family.
Ray was a proud father to his daughters Angela, Teresa, and Lisa-Rae (Isaac). He was also a beloved papa to his eight grandchildren Ashley, Kelly, Justin, Dalton, Morgan, Josh, Dawson and Isabella; and cherished his four great-grandchildren Jaxson, Ava, Violet, and Althea Rae.
Ray was known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his life. His careers ranged from working in the horse industry to spending 30 years at Buellflat Rock.
In retirement, he enjoyed many hobbies, especially creating hand-carved signs that can still be seen throughout businesses in the valley. He also lovingly cared for his roses, earning the affectionate nickname “The Rose Man.”
Above all else, Ray was his family’s biggest supporter, never missing a sporting event for his daughters, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren.
Ray will always be remembered for his deep love for his family, his generosity, and his pride in the Santa Ynez Valley community he called home for so many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:30-3:30 p.m. June 20 at the park in Rancho de Maria in Buellton. We invite all who knew Ray to join us in celebrating, honoring and remembering a man whose life was truly a gift to everyone around him.
Dad, we love you … and yes, you said it first.
