Dos Pueblos sophomore Reagan Arnold scored a buzzer beater to complete a Charger comeback in an 11-10 win over San Marcos in a key Channel League game Friday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.

Avery Ball led the Chargers with seven goals and an assist, and Arnold’s winning shot was her third goal.

Junior Mia Martinez-Tomatis led San Marcos with five goals, including an unassisted score that put the Royals up 10-9 with 4:51 remaining.

Ball scored unassisted with 2:23 to go to tie it 10-10. With the game looking as if it would go to overtime, after a save by San Marcos goalie Megan Taylor, Arnold snuck in her shot from an inbounds play with just enough time to score.

Taylor had 13 saves for San Marcos.

The game was back-and-forth all night, with neither team having a lead by more than two goals. San Marcos led at the half, before the teams combined for 14 goals in the second half.

Dos Pueblos is now 4-1 in Channel League play and 6-5 overall, while San Marcos is 4-2 and 8-5.

“I’m proud of the way the girls brought their energy and enthusiasm into this high level game in a battle with a crosstown rival who is a five-time defending Channel League champion,” San Marcos coach Paul Ramsey said.

“It’s unfortunate the way it ended tonight, but we have come a long way since graduating eight starters last year and now we are ready to play at a higher level by building from this experience.”

The disappointed fifth-year San Marcos coach also complimented Dos Pueblos and in particular Avery Ball.

“I’m always happy to pass out kudos when they’re deserved, but really happy it’s the last time I have to say that Avery took her team on her shoulders tonight.”

Dos Pueblos coach Anais Jimenez said “Mia Termond stepped up at the draw with five draw controls. As a team we had seventeen ground balls with Avery leading with four.”
