A 54-year-old woman with a possible injury was rescued from a remote trail above Gaviota on Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, California State Parks and a county helicopter responded to the incident at the Gaviota wind caves, according to Karen Cruz Orduña, Fire Department spokeswoman.

The copter crew hoisted the woman into the craft so she could be flown directly to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Cruz-Orduña said.

Her name and details on her condition were not available.

She reminded those headed for excursions on county trails to take proper precautions to lessen the need for rescue due to illness or injury.

“As warmer afternoons bring more people outdoors, please remember to stay safe on the trails: wear proper footwear, carry water, know your limits, and let someone know your plans before heading out.”
