Santa Barbara residents still have a week to suggest locations for the upcoming Santa Barbara edition of the Monopoly board game, and several Noozhawk readers have shared their suggestions with us.
Community members can send in location suggestions to be considered for the game by emailing santabarbara@toptrumps.com by the end of Friday (April 28).
Noozhawk received more than 60 responses suggesting Santa Barbara landmarks and popular businesses that locals want included in the new version of the classic board game.
Some of the most frequent suggestions are the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, Santa Barbara Mission, Santa Barbara Zoo, Shoreline Park, and Stearns Wharf, among others.
State Street, Santa Barbara City College and UC Santa Barbara were also common responses, as well as some of the city’s many theaters such as the Arlington Theatre, the Granada Theatre, and the Riviera Theatre.
A handful of people suggested Joe’s Café, which reader Jean Davis said is a “classic restaurant known for its strong drinks.”
Some of the more unique locations include the dog statue in the front yard of a Garden Street home, and some of the properties of celebrities living nearby, such as Oprah Winfrey’s estate.
One reader suggested a Monopoly property space for the “big red chair at 1316 Shoreline Drive.”
“Nobody knows why it’s there, but almost every person in Santa Barbara has a picture on it,” Jen Gamble said in her response.
Another Noozhawk reader said that The Habit burger restaurant should be included on the board, since the restaurant chain was founded by locals in Santa Barbara County in 1969, and now there are 358 locations across California and other states throughout the country, and even some locations in Cambodia and China.
Other landmarks suggested include the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, the Chromatic Gate located in Cabrillo Ball Park (also known as the rainbow arch), De La Guerra Plaza, the Santa Barbara Airport, the Santa Barbara Bowl, Earl Warren Showgrounds, the Funk Zone, the Museum of Natural History, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Santa Barbara Central Library, Milpas Street, and many others.
Top Trumps, which is developing the new Monopoly: Santa Barbara edition, said that each community-based Monopoly edition will “pay homage to all the favorite locations, icons and businesses creating a gameplay that truly embraces what makes each community unique and special.”
“We aim to showcase Santa Barbara in all its glory, displaying all the local favorites and cherished places, from the Old Mission Santa Barbara to La Super-Rica Taqueria, to many other iconic landmarks,” Top Trumps representative Jennifer Tripsea said when the game edition was announced. “The edition will be everything you love from the traditional game infused with some of the places you recommend, so please write in!”
