
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Pico, who peacefully departed this life on March 20, 2025 at the young age of 95.
Born on Dec. 26, 1929 in Los Alamos, California, Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a cherished member of the community.
He was known for his generosity, his unwavering kindness, and his love of sports.
After graduating Santa Maria High School in 1948, he served his country by joining the U.S. Army, and served six years promoting to sergeant where he fought in the Korean War.
When he returned from the army, he worked in the oil fields in Drum Canyon, then moved onto Ventura and Bakersfield. After working in the oil fields, Richard worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base as a painter.
Then he started his 37-year career as a maintenance supervisor for Santa Maria Bonita District, retiring at the age of 70. Richard was loved by all of his coworkers, teachers, and even the students at the schools where he worked.
Richard loved hunting, fishing, watching westerns and his favorite sports teams the Dodgers, Lakers and the Rams. He was always willing to complete whatever home project his wife Lorraine dreamed up.
Richard loved barbecuing tri-tip with family, and making homemade vanilla ice cream.
Richard is survived by his four children Toni Pico, Tracey Paulson, Tricia Speer (Brian), Richard Pico (Juliann); and four grandchildren Alex Paulson, Rainey and Riley Speer and Olivia Ronzio Pico.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, his parents Joseph and Joaquina Pico, and his eight siblings.
Funeral services for Richard will be at St Anthony’s Church in Los Alamos on Wednesday March 26, 2025. There will be a viewing from 9-9:30 am, Rosary from 9:30-10 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m. After mass there will be a graveside service at Los Alamos Cemetery.
Richard will forever be remembered for his love of family, patience, generosity, and his infectious smile.
