San Marcos High is proud to announce Richard Schroeder as their new Head Baseball Coach.
Richard brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the position, and inherits a program that recently won three straight Channel League titles (2021-2023) and made a trip to the division 3 CIF finals in 2023.
“I am very happy to have this opportunity. There is a lot of talent here and I am excited to get to know the team. I know we are in a tough baseball league, but we are going to be ready to go to compete for the league championship and beyond,” Coach Schroeder said.
Coach Schroeder was a standout pitcher for Santa Monica High School, and was also a member of their American Legion national championship team.
He later pitched for Cal State Los Angeles when CSLA was a Division 1 program, graduating with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology.
In addition, he co-founded the Santa Barbara Riptide club baseball team, which has enjoyed tremendous success.
Coach Schroeder is retired from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, where he served as a Captain and paramedic, and as a Training Captain for the department.
His son Dalton was a standout for Santa Barbara High School, who also played Division 1 baseball at Brown University.
“I love his passion, determination, and knowledge about the game. I am excited for the season to get here to watch this program continue to grow to new heights,” commented Athletic Director Aaron Solis.
“I am excited to have Coach Schroeder taking over the program,” said Principal Dare Holdren. “He is committed to making sure every student athlete has a positive experience, understands the game, and has a vision for developing the entire program.”
