The name of the 18-year-old motorcyclist killed in a North County crash on Sunday morning has been released.

Nathan Johnson of Santa Maria died in the crash, Raquel Zick, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau spokeswoman, said Monday afternoon.

Johnson was a senior at Righetti High School in Orcutt, according to a Santa Maria Joint Union HIgh School District spokesman.

The crash involving a Honda Accord and a Yamaha R6 motorcycle occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on the 7600 block of Foxen Canyon Road, near Foxen Vineyard & Winery, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CPR was performed on Johnson, but he was declared dead at the scene, Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

The collision occurred as the Honda was traveling north and the motorcycle was southbound, the CHP said.

The motorcycle drifted across the double yellow lines and slammed head-on into the Honda, which was driven by 42-year-old Bobbie Dowdy of Arroyo Grande, the CHP said.

Johnson was ejected from the motorcycle, and several witnesses rushed to provide him aid before emergency personnel arrived.

Dowdy and her passenger were not injured in the crash, the CHP said.

Foxen Canyon Road was shut down for a time in the area of the collision, about 10 miles east of Orcutt.

The crash is under investigation by the CHP, which said weather, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Counseling services were made available for Righetti students, teachers and staff on Monday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends,” the district statement said.
