Robert Stanley Tuomey was born along with his twin sister Diane in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Feb. 24, 1955. He passed away peacefully on Nov. 22, 2023 in Santa Barbara.
The twins were the first of six children of Robert Noël Tuomey and Joan Tuomey, née Niesen. The elder Robert’s job with the U.S. Government soon took the family to Los Angeles and then to Brightwaters, New York.
The family consensus is that Brightwaters was a wonderful place to grow up. Robert had many friends and shared the typical activities of kids on suburban Long Island back in the 1960s and ’70s.
Of his many interests he excelled most of all in competitive swimming.
As a young man, he distinguished himself as a house painter and handyman with many capabilities. Among his favorite jobs was a stint working the tracks in the New York Subway System, and construction work on the restoration of the Atascadero City Hall, for which he was given the Project Manager’s Award.
Robert also devoted his abilities to Habitat for Humanity.
Robert was a highly skilled, hard-working man and he will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Noël Tuomey and his sister Frances Froewiss. He leaves behind his mother Joan; sisters Diane and Nancy; brothers Michael and Steven; brothers-in-law Robert Tropper and Robert Froewiss; nephew Evan Froewiss; and niece Theodora Tuomey.
A donation to Habitat for Humanity or the American Cancer Society in honor of Robert would be greatly appreciated.
