Rosemarie Ledbetter

Rosemarie Ledbetter was an acclaimed opera singer with a phenomenal coloratura voice. But we suspect she would most like to be remembered for the love and service she gave to others.

Known affectionately as Mama Rose by her many friends and “adopted” children of all ages, she sponsored musicians, contributed to numerous charities and causes, and was always giving of her time, love and support.

She was a member of several musical groups and societies. She performed with folk music groups, singing and playing the harp, and was also a solo artist, singing opera and oratorio.

Rosemarie Ledbetter

Rosemarie graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, majoring in voice, musicology and history. She was valedictorian and phi beta kappa. She studied in many music programs and with renowned voice coaches.

She was a long time teacher at Monroe Elementary, and was a voice and piano instructor. She always enjoyed seeing her grown-up former students around town, and was proud to see how well they all turned out.

Rosemarie will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, her unwavering faith in God, and the love she left behind.

She is survived by her daughters Kathleen and Marilee Ledbetter; grandson Clint Mitchell; European relatives; and numerous “adopted “children and friends. Her husband Jesse Ledbetter, and daughter Carolyn Mitchell predeceased her.
