Dayzia Mendoza had a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 51-24 loss to a talented Oxnard girls basketball team in a Channel League game on Wednesday night at J.R. Richards Gym.
“Dayzia Mendoza played a solid game on both ends of the court, playing all five positions due to injury and illness of teammates. Her effort was extraordinary,” said Santa Barbara coach Andrew Butcher.
He also praised the play of Arianna Pacheco Alvarez.
The Dons return to action on Dec. 20 in their Tournament of Champions.
Girls Water Polo
Olivia Obando scored four goals, had two assists and four steals to lead Santa Barbara High to a 13-5 win over Rio Mesa in the Channel League game on Wednesday.
Abby Webber and Layla Szymczak each had three goals as Santa Barbara improved to 3-0 in league.
Santa Barbara hosts San Marcos on Friday at 3:15 p.m.
Wrestling
San Marcos lost to Ventura, 50-31, in a Channel League dual meet on Wednesday at the Thunderhut.
The Royals got pins from Jacob Dominguez, Levi Cooper, Jake Carroll and Manny Munoz.
In other wrestling action, Santa Ynez boys and girls team lost league-opening matches against Cabrillo. The boys’ score was 66-18 and the girls’ was 54-6.
