Rozella 'Kay' Thiemann
Rozella ‘Kay’ Thiemann

Rozella “Kay” Thiemann, a cherished mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, in Santa Maria at the age of 89. Born on Feb. 1, 1936, in Dorrance, Kansas, Kay was a beacon of love and warmth for all who knew her.

Her life, spanning nearly nine decades, was filled with beautiful memories, unwavering love for her family, and a spirit that embraced joy and laughter.

Kay was the beloved daughter of Daniel and Edna Steinle, who instilled in her the values of hard work and kindness. She graduated from Dorrance High School in 1954, and shortly after she ventured to California, where her life would take on new and exciting chapters.

In 1957 Kay met and married Robert G. Keith, and together they welcomed three wonderful children into the world Lori Baldiviez (Nick), Lisa Hunstad, and Randy Keith (Tera). Though her marriage to Robert ended in divorce in 1979, Kay’s devotion to her children remained unshakeable as she navigated the challenges of life with grace and resilience.

In 1997, Kay found love again when she married Ronald Thiemann. Their time together, though too brief, was filled with joy and companionship until Ron’s passing in 2003.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, her parents Daniel and Edna, and her brother Gerald Steinle.

Kay’s legacy continues through her children and their families. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren Lauren Hamilton (JD Escobar), Chad Hunstad, Cody Hunstad, Taylor Lauridsen (Trevor), and Mikaela Keith, alongside her adored great-grandchildren Addie and Bryce Escobar. Kay also leaves behind her sister Carol Kestler, and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

Kay was known for her vibrant spirit and a love for life that was infectious. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, and decorating her home, creating a haven for her loved ones.

She had a passion for adventure, often taking trips to the casinos in Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nevada, where she delighted in the thrill of the games and the joy of being with family and friends.

Throughout her life, Kay worked in various roles, including as a dedicated homemaker and employee at Rowan’s Men’s Wear, Zales, and Merksamers Jewelers until her retirement.

Kay Thiemann’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the importance of family. She touched the hearts of many and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave, and may her legacy of kindness and joy inspire generations to come.
