Carpinteria’s Ruby Cluderay got soaked in history and England’s summer rain while competing in the Castle Race Series Triathlon and Multi Sport Weekend in Yorkshire on July 21.
Cluderay, a junior at Carpinteria High, raced in the Super Sprint Triathlon at the historic Castle Howard, which is featured on the Netflix series “Bridgerton.”
She placed fourth in her division and was the 39th woman overall in the event, which included a 400-meter swim, 23-kilometer bike and 5k run. She finished in 1 hour, 52 minutes, 17 seconds.
“This event was tough,” she told Noozhawk. “It was raining heavily and I fell hard twice during the run which slowed me down and lost me a place. But the castle and scenery around Yorkshire were beautiful and the level of athleticism was incredible. Some of the best triathletes are from England, so that was pretty cool, and a little intimidating to race against them.”
The competition was a British qualifier for the 2023 European Championships.
Before competing in England, Cluderay took first place in the 17-19 age group at the Cal Tri Ventura.
She is expected to compete in the Santa Barbara Triathlon on Aug. 26.
