Carpinteria was hurt by mistakes in the field and dropped an 11-7 decision to Nordhoff in a Citrus Coast League baseball game on Monday in Ojai.

The Warriors scored five runs in the fourth inning and took a 7-6 lead on a RBI hit from Diego Nieves.

But that lead was short lived as Nordhoff responded with five unanswered runs.

“We haven’t played in 10 days and had not played in four days before that,” said Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney. “It doesn’t matter how hard we try to stay prepared and practice at a high level, playing one game in two weeks is not a good formula for staying sharp.

“We are starting a stretch where our legs, arms and baseball brains will be tested.  It would have been better to play well today and win, but the good news is that there are a whole bunch of opportunities coming up.”

Erich Goebel paced the Carpinteria offense with two hits, a RBI and a run scored. Isaac Flores had two hits and scored a run and Talon Trumble had a hit and two RBIs.

The Warriors (5-4 overall, 4-4 CCL) play the Rangers (5-9-1, 4-8-1) twice more this week, beginning with a home game Wednesday and concluding the season series in Ojai on Friday.

Girls Lacrosse

A shorthanded Santa Barbara High girls lacrosse team fell to Cate, 7-1, in a Channel League game on Monday.

“We have 11 players out due to injuries, sickness and travel,” said Santa Barbara coach Elayne Blessing. “We could not field game. Cate was willing to play down, but, of course, with no subs or stamina left after running full field we lost 7 to 1.”

Softball

Santa Clara jump on Bishop Diego for three runs in the first inning and defeated the Cardinals, 15-5, in a Tri-Valley League softball game.

Lily Simolon had two hits and two RBIs to lead Bishop. Tessa Johansen, Chelsea Hayes and Lucy Plowman also drove in runs.

Boys Tennis

Bishop Diego lost a 7-6 decision against St. Bonaventure in a Tri-Valley League match.

“We needed to win two of the remaining six sets to pull out a win. We came close to pulling it off but couldn’t quite finish it off,” said coach Pete Kirkwood.
