The sale of “Safe and Sane” fireworks begins Wednesday, June 28, in the City of Lompoc.

Only Safe and Sane fireworks are allowed in the City of Lompoc, and they may only be used from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Lompoc fire and police departments will be enforcing laws concerning fireworks, and violators will be cited and fined. Minors younger than 18 years old are not allowed to light fireworks or possess them without an adult present. The City of Lompoc has zero tolerance for illegal fireworks. In addition, all fireworks are prohibited in Santa Barbara County outside of Lompoc city limits, except in Santa Maria and Guadalupe.

Legal firework sales begin at noon on Wednesday, June 28, and will continue through 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. The following nonprofit organizations are authorized to sell Safe and Sane fireworks at the following locations. Sale hours run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily:

Cornerstone Church of Lompoc, 415 W. Central Ave. (Big Brand Tire)
Lompoc Employee Development Association, 1309 N. H St. (99 Cents Only Store)
First Apostolic Church, 701 W. Central Ave. (Walmart)
Lompoc Valley Baptist Church, 729 North H St. (Boot Barn)

Lompoc city rules prohibit Safe and Sane firework possession outside of June 28 to July 4, as well as the discharge of any fireworks outside of July 4. In addition, city ordinance dictates that fireworks must not be discharged on or over another person’s property. Furthermore, Safe and Sane fireworks may not be ignited or discharged within 10 feet of a residence, or in a public area. As a reminder, public areas include city streets and sidewalks. Minors under the age of 18 should always be accompanied around fireworks.

The Lompoc Fire Department encourages community members igniting fireworks to be mindful of dry brush in the area, and stay clear of places with dry brush.

Safe and Sane Fireworks may also be used on Fourth of July only in the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau parking lot, which is the only city-sanctioned open discharge area.

There is no fee for this location, and families are encouraged to bring chairs and have a safe experience.

The community is asked to keep it Safe and Sane this Fourth of July!
