
Sally Stewart of Santa Barbara passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026 at the age of 87. She lived a full and meaningful life marked by curiosity, resilience, generosity, humor, and a deep commitment to the people and communities she loved.
Born on Sept. 7, 1938, Sally built a life filled with adventure and connection.
She traveled the world and embraced many different roles throughout her life, including teacher’s assistant, secretary, entrepreneur, administrator, educator, and later driving the activity van at Wood Glen Hall.
She was someone who loved being involved, helping others, and knowing she had something to offer.
Sally loved Santa Barbara deeply and made it her home for many years. She cherished her friendships, including her tennis group and her women’s group, which brought her connection and joy for decades.
She volunteered generously, including with Hospice of Santa Barbara and the Transition House Auxiliary, always finding ways to support others and her community.
She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, her laughter, and her smile. She had the ability to find moments of joy even during life’s most difficult times. Her resilience carried her through many challenges, including the loss of her daughter Linda Stewart in 2002.
In her later years, Sally was especially proud to remain independent and living in her own home until near the very end of her life. She continued to stay engaged with friends, walk daily, enjoy nature, care for beloved dogs, and appreciate the beauty of Santa Barbara that she loved so much.
Sally is survived by her daughter Karen Stewart; sister Nancy Harahan of Flintridge; and brother Charles Morris III of Spokane, Washington. She was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Stewart in 2002.
A Celebration of Sally’s Life will be held at noon Sunday, July 19 at 319 W. Alamar Ave., 
Santa Barbara.
