The UC Santa Barbara softball team has landed two players on the various All-Big West teams.

Sophomore outfielder Sammy Fabian earned First-Team recognition and catcher Teah Thies was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Fabian closed her sophomore season on a high note, earning her first career Big West Player of the Week after helping lead UCSB to a series win in the final weekend at Cal Poly. She hit at a .583 clip in the series, going 7-for-12 including a perfect 4-for-4 mark and 2 RBI in the season finale.

The Glendale, Calif. native opened the season on fire, racking up 10 hits through her first four outings. In her first 25 games, she recorded 15 multi-hit efforts, including a run of five consecutive with at least two hits.

Fabian ended the year with a seven-game hit streak, posting a .404 batting average for the year – the third-highest in program history – and making her just the third Gaucho ever to bat over .400 for a season. She also led the team in a majority of offensive categories, including runs (24), hits (67), doubles (8), stolen bases (9), on base percentage (.431) and slugging (.464).

Thies concludes her freshman year as the Gauchos’ leader in RBI with 17.

The Laguna Hills, Calif. native went on to appear in all 52 games for the Gauchos, ranking top-five on the team in hits (36), runs (14), doubles (4) and triples (2). Her 17 RBIs were also good for sixth among Big West freshmen.

This marks the fifth straight season that at least one Gaucho has earned a Big West All-Freshman Team nod. It’s also the fifth time in six years that at least one Gaucho has been named to the First Team.
