Top-ranked San Juan Hills won the championship division and Laguna Blanca captured the consolation title at the fifth annual Bishop Diego Cardinal Classic boys volleyball tournament on Saturday.

San Juan Hills, the No. 1 team in CIF-SS Division 4, defeated Division 5 top-ranked Rio Mesa in the championship bracket final.

Laguna Blanca went 2-1 in a tough pool and finished third, sending it to the consolation bracket. The Owls took care of business, beating Oxnard and Oaks Christian to take home hardware.

In pool play, Laguna Blanca beat Arroyo Grande in three sets, Hueneme in two and lost to Santa Monica-Pacifica Christian in two.

“A solid day overall,” said coach Jason Donnelly. “We got to use some different lineups and faced tough competition in pool play. 

“Drew Levinson was a force in the middle and Baylor Wilson played great defense.”

Santa Ynez tied for third place with Arroyo Grande. The Pirates beat Pacifica Christian in the first round of the playoffs and lost to Rio Mesa in the semifinals.

Bishop Diego tied for fifth place with Pacifica Christian. The Cardinals, who finished second in their pool, lost to San Juan Hills in the playoffs.
