The San Marcos cross country team impressed at the Raider Invite on Thursday in Oxnard.
The Royals’ boys team captured first place as a team with a total of 28 points, while Elsie Tuttle and Autumn Richardson of San Marcos tied for first place in the girls race.
August Singer was the top racer for the San Marcos boys, crossing the finish line of the 3-mile race with a time of 15:04.
“August is fairly new to running cross country, so today was great for him to practice racing,” San Marcos head coach Marilyn Hantgin said.
The rest of the Royal boys were Nate Daughters (5th), Everett Young (6th), Walker Gregorio (7th), Audric Halberg (8th), Brogan Hemphill (9th) and Drew Vogel (20th).
“The boys pushed each other throughout the race. These boys are highly motivated and are preparing for a long season ahead,” Hantgin said.
On the girls side, Tuttle and Richardson matched each other stride for stride and finished with first-place times of 18:30.1.
“[Tuttle and Richardson] do a great job of helping each other during their race,” Hantgin said of the top girls duo. “Neither one wants to lose; it’s a great pairing. Not only are they workout buddies, but they are also great friends. I am so happy they have each other.”
The pairing was followed by teammates Abby Herbst (8th), Jane Demmin (9th), Charlie Wood (35th) and Liz Jacobsen (36th).
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3, for the first Channel/Pacific View Association meet of the season.
