The San Marcos boys dropped their first game at the Bob Hawking Tip Off Showcase in Simi Valley to Chaminade, 91-68.
After falling behind by 14 in the first quarter, the Royals were able to claw back thanks to the hot long-range shooting of Ben Treadway, who scored 18 points on six 3-pointers.
San Marcos came within five points late in the third quarter, before Chaminade pulled away in the fourth with strong shooting and transition scoring.
“I’m really proud of our guys for how we battled and stayed together. This was a good test for us,” said Royals coach James Kinzler. “It’s a long week of games for us down here and we’re looking forward to the competition and continuing to grow as a team.”
Joe Pasternack added 14 for San Marcos, hitting four 3s, and Wyatt Miller finished with 13.
Coltrane Marchand of Chaminade led all scorers with 32 points.
