The San Marcos boys and girls wrestling teams competed and put together solid showings in two separate tournaments on Saturday.
The boys team placed third in the bronze bracket of the Lancaster Duals, while the girls came in 19th out of 30 teams in the Showdown at the Shore Hueneme High Tournament.
The San Marcos boys went 2-3 across the tournament, picking up a 42-42 win via criteria over Fillmore and taking down James Monroe in the third-place matchup, 39-21.
“The display of resilience was incredible to see. I am proud of what they accomplished today,” San Marcos head coach Jesus Romero said. “After two losses early on, we had a third-round bye and used it to mentally reorganize. This team’s grit and determination make me proud.”
As for the girls, Angelique Silva led the charge with a second-place finish in a competitive 170-pound division. She pinned her first opponent and earned a 2-1 win in the semifinals before falling in the title match.
Meanwhile, Sophia Garnica went 2-2 and Ingrid Vargas tallied one win for the Royals.
“I am proud of all our girls for participating and giving it their all,” Romero said.
